You know…
Natasha nods - it’s not a strange thought to her, refusing to reveal herself. She’s the eternal pragmatist, and she knows that information offered could be worth her life some day. The psych department is her eternal torment, and she can well understand the need to hide from them - as, she imagine, can most of SHIELD.
At the request, she simply nods. “I’ll take care of it,” she assures him. “Saves me a requisition form.” A poor joke, and one which she immediately retracts, seeing her own opportunity. “I can overtake the investigation, if you would consent? The files have no safer place than with me.” She’s idly, achingly curious about what they contain, as she has been ever since Dmitri’s face flashed up on the screen.
“Will I alight upon a compromised agent pissed off by a letter opener wound to the knee?” she asks, only half joking. She knows the likely answer, but it never hurts to be certain. In fact, it only ever hurts if she doesn’t check.
Oh thank God. Ellis smiled tiredly in gratitude, then listened as she gave him an offer. Overtake the investigation? Well… someone would have to. They couldn’t keep Dmitri locked up forever for no reason. Someone had to bleed him dry. So he nodded. “Yeah… yeah, of course. Just.. one request. Keep me updated.”
Logically, it made sense. She knew the case, she was helping interrogate him. She gave him information on what he was dealng with which saved the lives of his agents sent to capture the guy in the first place. There was no one else he’d rather have running that case.
“Oh, oh no.” Ellis let out a laugh, momentarily forgetting the consequences, before gasping and wincing. Okay. Okay… Not moving… ever.. again. “Fucking..” He paused for a moment, allowing the pain to fade before continuing to speak. “No, uh. He’s been detained. If he’s not in medical, then he’s being interrogated.” He explained. “Should be empty.”
“Daily reports,” Natasha promises, gratified by receiving so easily what she’s desired. “If not from me, from a colleague."
Inadvertently, she winces to at the reaction to the laughter. Yes, she knows every inch of the pain that shoots through you when you forget that you’re injured. "Do you want me to check on the interrogation?” She’s not accustomed to check on interrogations, but an agent who has been priorly compromised is a sore spot. If Clint hadn’t intervened, she’s sure she would have been dead numerous times.
