Now Where’s Your Champion? [@athermajestysservice]
“Beauté peaux de cruauté bien, je dirais?” Natasha asks, raising an eyebrow at James. “Un cliché marche, n’est-ce pas?” Despite the words, she opens the door, scanning the corridor.
“We can go,” she says sharply, opening the door and allowing them both inside. “I have the key, we have the code. Stay with him, and I’ll go down and… liberate our item.” She doesn’t trust him not to leave with it, and she has to ensure the safety of the item before she can leave.
“I’ll come back,” she tells him, softening her manner for his benefit as she runs her finger up his chest. “How could I not?”
“Perhaps a little.” He chuckled, flashing her a smile as he steps inside and lays the unconscious man on the floor.
James arched an eyebrow at her blatant distrust of him, watching her even as her finger ran up his chest. “You don’t trust me, even though we’ve been sent here together? I’m not here to steal from you, Natasha. I am on loan to SHIELD, which means I’ll do what they ask. Your distrust in me is only going to affect the mission.”
He gestured over his shoulder at the man on the floor. “He’s not going to be waking up for a good 12 hours. Why bother leaving me here, hmm?”
Natasha draws back, allowing the expression to fall back to her more natural neutrality once more. “Of course I don’t trust you,” she answers, re-adjusting her dress where the target had mussed it. “It’s hardly as though you trust me. We’re agents who are temporarily co-operating - trust doesn’t come in to it.”
She sighs as he points it out - she knows that back up is standard procedure, and that realistically she’ll be safer with him there. Mostly. “Tie him up at least,” she says after a moment, fixing her gun back into its holster as she speaks. “We need to go as soon as possible, before they realise he’s gone.
