“No,” Natasha says contemplatively, toying with the label on her beer bottle. She doesn’t look at him, wondering just how she can expect this to end well. There is a reason she stays away from forming attachments to people; it has never ended well for her. “I’m not - but when has that ever stopped you? I heard, you know, about the last partner you were assigned.”

And with her words, Clint fell silent. Very silent. She knew about that? Wonderful.
He didn’t know what to say about that, but for now, he tried to shove the topic out of his head, it even worked - shortly.
“I just didn’t, because you don’t like it and I don’t want to get disappointed.”, he said quietly, drinking from his beer again, running his fingers through his hair shortly.
Now this got uncomfortable.

Natasha nods, mind racing over the information. She beckons the waiter over with their food, although her appetite has somewhat disappeared. She’d rather be working, lose herself in the familiarity of it, and she takes a long drink from the bottle before toying with her food absently. “How are you getting on with your assignments?” she asks, avoiding his eyes once more. She should never have agreed to this, not when she’s feeling like she is now.
