Natasha’s expression doesn’t change as she looks back at Loki, despite the nerve he’s hit. She’s aware he knows nothing concrete, and she’s unwilling to provide him with the information.

“Perhaps,” she responds after a moment, smile inscrutable. “Perhaps SHIELD simply think that I’m the best agent for the job.”

Absorbing the information, she nods. His words correspond with the information SHIELD hold on Amora, and this is exactly as she expected Loki to respond. “Then if she’s nothing more than a mild annoyance to you, how would you feel about providing information which could lead to her downfall? We wouldn’t want you to soil your spotless reputation by becoming involved.” 

Loki let out a snort. A lie. He wasn’t about to call her out on it, knowing she would full on deny the fact so he continued to play along. Play nice. So she wasn’t going to tell him all the details. That was no matter to him. The trickster was collecting information from her just as she was from him.

“Oh please, Agent Romanoff. Don’t even begin to try and flatter me. We both know that my own reputation is hardly spotless, though I have done nothing chaotic as of late. As well as we both know your own record is far from spotless as well but I digress.”

He calmly leaned back in his chair and let out a small sigh. And despite the temperature in the room being snug and a little on the warm side, his breath still appeared frosted; a billowy white wisp of puffy air.

“In truth, I honestly don’t know what she could be after. Usually it’s just her pathetically pining after Thor and doing everything she can to shove people in her way, out of her way. But the way you put it, it seems her intent is perhaps far more malicious than usual.”

Natasha barely responds to the snort of derision, instead focusing her attention on his words - the studied casual manner in which they’re delivered.

“Neither of us is on trial here, Loki. SHIELD are simply asking for you assistance in this area. She seems to be making a systematic attempt to take down the Avengers - and before you scoff, this is perhaps the best attempt we have seen. The matter in question is simply whether you are capable of stopping her.”

She leaves out the fact that Amora has already managed to incapacitate three of the Avengers, as well as Thor’s rage at the matter. They cannot seem to grab hold of her, and reaching out to Loki is the move of a group desperate and far beyond their own experience.
